Pokhara, January 14

The ongoing dispute between non-teaching staff at Pokhara’s Manipal Teaching Hospital and the hospital administration has finally been resolved, thanks to the intervention of the Ministry of Labour, Employment and Social Security.

A committee headed by officer Shreeram Khanal at the Office of the Attorney General formed to arbitrate the dispute has convinced the hospital administration to implement the labour act and provide salary and perks to workers accordingly.

The committee had Pokhara Chamber of Commerce and Industry then chairperson Bishwoshankar Palike and Trade Union’s representative Nabin Adhikari as members.

As per the latest agreement, the non-teaching staff at the hospital now will receive additional 3,650 rupees in allowance.

Earlier, the staff under all three staff unions at the hospital had launched agitation on different dates putting forward a five-point demand, including increment in their salaries and perks.

The dispute had reached the labour ministry after the hospital administration refused to fulfil the agitating workers’ demand.
