Maoist bandh cripples life

People here had to face a one-day bandh called by Maoists before things affected by recent five-day transportation strike could be straightened. The Maoists had announced bandh in three districts viz Nuwakot, Rasuwa and Sindhupalchowk accusing security forces of killing their district member Raj Kumar Shrestha in Machhapokhari (Khanigaon) area after arresting him. No public and private vehicle plied on the road except two reserved microbuses arriving from Kathmandu. Commercial activity came to a stop. All educational institutions closed down. Women had to walk to the Trishuli hospital to get their children vaccinated. Rasuwa district was also affected by the bandh. Meanwhile, HURON has urged the Maoists to release of Dol Raj Thapa, 50, and Ram Krishna KC, 25 who were abducted on June 19 from Arukharka of Thaprek VDC-3.
