Maoist Centre demand re-voting in Bharatpur's ward no. 19

RATNANAGAR, CHITWAN: CPN Maoist Centre Chitwan has demanded re-voting at the Bharatpur Metropolitan City's ward no. 19 where the ballot papers were torn in a dispute among the political parties.

Maoist Centre has issued a statement on Monday demanding a re-polling under the Clause 49 and 50 of the Local Level Election Act–2073.

The Centre has accused CPN-UML of orchestrating the act of tearing up ballot papers while at the same time condemning what it terms as 'spreading of distorted facts and publicity against the Maoist Centre through social networking sites and media'.

The statement signed by Maoist Centre District In-charge Ishwori Bhattarai, states that the UML's act – orchestrated with an intent to influence the election at the final stages of vote count – has raised a question over its commitment to democracy.

Meanwhile, Chitwan's Chief Election Official Kavi Prasad Neupane said the Election Commission has been informed of the incident and added that he would follow the EC's instructions. The vote counting venue has been sealed off with a tight security apparatus in place.
