Maoist victims rue govt apathy
Kathmandu, January 18:
The Nepal Maoist Victims’ Association and the Maoist Victims’ National Struggle Committee today announced a ‘state of crisis’ as their demands were not fulfilled despite getting assurances from numerous political parties and other sectors.
Around a 100 Maoist victims staying in Kathmandu organised a programme at Bhotahiti today to announce the state of crisis as an intensified protest to draw the government’s attention to their plight.
Speaking at the programme, Bhoj Raj Timilsina, coordinator of committee, said, “Some of victims are living a miserable life in Balaju. None of the political parties seems to be careful towards our problem, compelling us to declare a state of crisis.”
He said the political parties had not abided by the past agreements. “We were assured that our demands would be met, but the assurances have proved to be lies,” he said, adding, “Our protest programmes will intensify in the days to come.”
He said they would turn to the parties again to exert pressure on them to address the plight of the victims. “We will knock on the doors of senior leaders such as Dr Ram Sharan Mahat and Krishna Prasad Sitaula of Nepali Congress, followed by Maoist leaders,” he added. “We lack food, health facilities and are facing numerous other difficulties,” Timilsina lamented. “NC leaders had assured us of support but they failed to compel the state to rehabilitate us by returning the property seized from us,” he said.
