Maoists ‘rough up’ NC, UML, NC-D men
Kathmandu, April 2:
Maoists allegedly beat up 12 cadres of the Nepali Congress, the CPN (UML) and other political parties at Kotbada village-9 and Gela VDC in Kalikot on Saturday.
The cadres were reportedly taken to Manma, the district headquarters of Kalikot, on bamboo baskets for treatment. They have been undergoing treatment, according to the Nepali Congress.
Cadres of the CPN (Maoist) are mentally harassing Radha Majgainya, the regional representative of the Nepali Congress (Bardiya district) and secretary of the Village Working Committee, the Nepali Congress alleged, claiming that the cadres were threatening to kidnap Majgainya. Accusing the Maoists of not mending ways even after joining the interim government, the Nepali Congress has warned the Maoists not to repeat such inhumane activities.
The Nepali Congress (Democratic) also accused the Maoists of attacking its active members Jarma Bhandari and Karna Bahadur with khukuri while they were asleep in their houses on March 31. The incident took place in Gela VDC-9.
The Nepali Congress (Democratic) has condemned the incident and warned the Maoists not to repeat such heinous acts in the future.
The party has called on the government to immediately take legal action against the people involved in such activities and make arrangements for the treatment of the injured.
