Maoists anticipate advice on stir plan
KATHMANDU: Agitating Unified CPN-Maoist today consulted with senior civil society members to seek their advice on the future course of the movement launched by the party to ‘establish civilian supremacy’.
In a programme organised to solicit their suggestion, the former rebels
were requested not to obstruct the parliamentary proceedings.
The largest party in the Constituent Assembly is continuously disrupting the House seeking action against the President’s move to reinstate CoAS Rookmangud Katawal.
The civil society activists asked the Maoists to opt for other means of protest, reasoning that disrupting the House was against the spirit of civilian supremacy.
Maoist chairperson Pushpa Kamal Dahal had tried to justify their agitation. He said some forces were conspiring to dissolve the CA but did not elaborate which ones were doing so.
Stating that their agitation would continue, Dahal said the country could face a great crisis if the political parties were not united.
Rights activist Krishna Pahadi said the Maoists should not disrupt the parliament. “Parliament is the supreme representative body of the people so it should function without any disturbances,” he added.
Nepali Congress leader Narahari Acharya said President Dr Ram Baran Yadav had made a mistake by reinstating Katawal. He, however, requested the UCPN-M to allow the parliament to function, suggesting that their demand could be met by amending the Interim Constitution.
Kul Bahadur Khadka, former Lt General of Nepali Army said other parties were trying to isolate the Maoists. He called on all the parties to unite in order to solve the problems facing the country.
