Maoists blast school

Baglung, May 13:

The Maoists yesterday afternoon detonated a powerful bomb at a community school in Baglung district. The rebels had been threatening the Prastavit Secondary School at Kusmishera to “shut down or face severe consequences”.

The Maoists had threatened all the private and community schools to close down. School management committee chairman Basudev Acharya said the Maoists had asked Rs 50,000 donation from the school which they denied. Principal Chitra Chapagain said though the Maoists locked the school, a meeting of guardians and teachers has decided to reopen it. The blast has caused Rs 0.7 million damage.
