Maoists ignoring accords, says NC acting prez

Dang, September 29:

Acting president of the Nepali Congress Sushil Koirala today said it was high time that the issues of land and property seized by the Maoists were raised in the House and taken to the streets simultaneously.

Speaking at a programme organised by the Maoists’ Victims’ Association, Dang, in Ghorahi, Koirala said, “We are even prepared to stall the House proceedings.” Saying that the Maoists had not implemented any agreement reached in the past, Koirala said, “The Maoists have been ignoring the Comprehensive Peace Accord reached in the presence of the UN.”

He accused the Maoists of continuing with their old practices of intimidation, threat and extortion even after leading the government.

NC central member Dr Sashanka Koirala said, “The Maoists say they seized the land of feudalists. In fact, the Maoists themselves are the biggest feudalists.”

Meanwhile, NC vice chairman Ram Chandra Poudel today said the CPN-Maoist was merely copying the agendas like socoialism, economic reform and inclusive democracy that the NC had raised several years ago.

He claimed that the NC was the genuine revolutionary force as it had led all democratic movements in the country.
