Maoists impose chakkajam
DADELDHURA: Transportation in Dadeldhura is brought to a halt after UCPN-Maoist activists announced an indefinite chakkajam today. The Maoists have been protesting claiming that a vehicle boarded by students affiliated to Nepal Students’ Union had hit a motorcycle of its activists and injured the riders.
Manju Bam, secretary of the district organisation committee of the Maoists, in a press release, has warned of stern agitation if the accused were not brought to book. The Maoists activists had come in the motorbikes to show black flags to Local Development Minister Purna Kumar Sherma.
Two YCL cadres including Janak Kalauni sustained minor injuries in the accident.
Due to the strike, transport services in nine districts of the Far-Western Region via Dadeldhura have been affected. Thousands of passengers have been stranded.
