Maoists seek CA poll date

Rautahat, Siraha, Oct 12:

Maoist cadres today staged rallies at Gaur, the district headquarters of Rautahat, and Siraha bazaar.

They were demanding that the government announce the date for constituent assembly elections immediately and implement the eight-point agreement signed between them and the government.

Hundreds of slogan-shouting Maoist cadres participated in the rally at Gaur.

The rally ended with a corner meeting after it reached BP Chowk.

Addressing the meeting, Maoist district people’s government chief, Yadav, said the Maoists’ weapons were in no way a hindrance to the constituent assembly elections.

He accused the present government of trying to thwart the peace talks by raising the issue of arms management.

He added that Maoists are always positive towards the restoration of peace in the country.

In Siraha district, Maoist cadres demanded the implementation of the eight-point agreement.

They also urged the government to announce a date for constituent assembly elections.

The rallyists carried placards demanding nationalisation of the royal family’s property and the formation of republic fronts.

The rally later converted into a corner meeting at the bazaar where Maoist district secretary Avinash warned of an agitation if the ongoing summit talks ended inconclusively.

Similar meetings were also held in Lahan, Mirchaiya and Bandipur, the Maoists said.
