Maoists set to join hands with Madhesi parties: Dr Bhattarai

Birgunj, May 16:

Senior Maoist leader Dr Baburam Bhattarai has said that the CPN-Maoist is ready to work together with Madhes-centric parties.

“Through the April 10 Constituent Assembly polls, people have given a message to the Maoists

and Madhesi parties to work together. The CPN-Maoist has understood this message and is ready to work in line with aspirations of the people,” he said at the 32nd Annual General Meeting of the Birgunj Chamber of Commerce and Industries in Birgunj today.

“Economic development will be the major agenda of the new government, which will be led by the CPN-Maoist,” the Maoist leader said.

He urged businessmen and industrialists to work together with the Maoists forgetting past incidents.

The new government to be led by the CPN-Maoist will mobilise the private sector and government bodies for the development of economic and physical infrastructure, he said.

Saying that corrupt political leadership was to blame for tardy economic development in the country, he said the Maoist leadership was quite serious about economic development of the country.

Bhattarai said economic revolution will begin once the republic is born.

Stating that Birgunj has played a crucial role for economic development of the nation, he said the private sector should make investment for the construction of a Birgunj-Kathmandu fast track and construction of another international airport.

Pointing to businessmen and industrialists’ concern about an insecure business environment, Bhattarai said, “Security will be beefed up once the Maoists join the government.”

BCCI chairman Ganesh Lath called for the formation of an industrial security force.
