Pokhara, October 29:

Maoists today handed over to the police one Balaram Giri, 52, whom they had arrested yesterday on the charge of sexually exploiting three little girls. He is a resident of Baidam, Pokhara.

The Maoists arrested him on the charge of luring three girls aged 5, 6 and 8 respectively and exploiting them sexually.

Locals filed complaints with us that Giri had been tempting the girls with sweets and chocolates for a month, said the Maoists. The three girls are studying in local schools.

The Maoists tarred Giri’s face and garlanded him with shoes in the presence of hundreds of people in front of the Tal Barahi higher secondary school. They frogmarched him around the city and later handed him to the Ward Police Office at Baidam.

Meanwhile, the victim girls underwent a health check-up at the Western Regional Hospital in Pokhara, police said. Legal action against Giri will be initiated after the report from hospital is received, said sub-inspector at the District Police Office Surya Prasad Upadhaya.
