Maoists threaten to wage war for rights

Kathmandu, September 27:

Senior central committee leader of CPN-Maoist Netra Bikram Chand today said his party would go for a war if people’s rights were not ensured through peaceful means.

“It’s our democratic right to wage war if our political rights are seized,” he said at an interaction on corruption organised by the YCL.

He said the CPN-M wanted fully proportional election system. “Nepal must be liberated at all costs,” he said, claiming that the rulers are largely influenced by foreign power centres.

He said corruption would never be controlled unless youths begin campaigning against it. He alleged that the leaders were involved in corruption. Terming the YCL ‘Tarun Dal’, he praised the youth wing of his party for campaigning against corruption.

Former chairman of the FNCCI, Ananda Ram Mulmi, said corrupt people were under the protection of political parties. “Businessmen do anything to boost their business. Employees of government and non-government offices demand bribes from innocent people,” he said, adding such activities should be checked at the earliest. “Corrupt should be excluded from the society.” Praising the YCL for its activities against corruption, he said youths should be encouraged to make the society healthier.

Maoist MP Khimlal Devkota said parties have good ties with corrupt. “Courts, police, army and palace are the major junctions of corruption,” he alleged, adding courts have become a place to give clean chit to the corrupt leaders.
