Maoists withdraw bandh, JTMM-V calls another

Siraha, June 28:

The indefinite bandh called by the Maoists’ district executive committee in Siraha since Monday has been withdrawn.

Maoist district secretary Abinash said that the bandh was withdrawn after the local administration assured them that four of their cadres held on Tuesday would be freed.

The Maoists had called the bandh demanding the release of their cadres who were arrested with arms.

However, the chief district officer, Balkrishna Panthi, said no agreement has been reached to release the detained Maoist activists. According to him, he told the Maoists that the legal process would be initiated soon in their case.

Meanwhile, the Mirchaiya area police office said that some vehicles plied along the Mahendra Highway after reports of the bandh withdrawal spread.

The people in the Siraha district will, however, be facing a bandh again as the Janatantrik Tarai Mukti Morcha led by Visfot Singh, a splinter group of the Janatantrik Tarai Mukti Morcha-Goit, announced that a three-day bandh will be on in the Tarai, effective tomorrow.
