Maoists’ designs dangerous: Rana

Kathmandu, September 9 :

Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) President Pashupati Shumshere Rana today claimed the instance of Maoist rebels hitting the streets with their demands could prove to be a dangerous step. He also expressed concern over the instance of rebels wielding arms.

“There is pressure from the government and the rebel side to push the peace process ahead. While the government is putting pressure in its own way, the tactics on the streets could prove dangerous,” Rana told journalists at his residence today.

He also claimed that while the media has been presenting the rebel point of view to the maximum, the government point of view is not being reported.

“The five-point deal with the UN says both the armies would be in barracks while the UN is here,” Rana said, terming the inability of both the government and the rebels to sort out complications “unfortunate”.

“It would be better to let the people decide the nagging issues, which are delaying the interim constitution from taking shape,” Rana said, adding that the House of Representatives was the legitimate body now.

He was against dissolving it and said the rebels must be included in it somehow. He said the motives of the government and the rebels regarding talks were clear.

Rana also said it would be wrong to have both referendum on monarchy and election to constituent assembly simultaneously. “We could go to a referendum separately because members of the electorate are not much informed about such serious issues,” Rana said.
