Maoists’ no-trust motion threat against govt
Kathmandu, June 17:
The CPN (Maoist) would not, at any rate, support Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala as the country’s first President, said party leader Ram Bahadur Thapa ‘Badal’ today.
Thapa also said the party might consider a no-trust motion against the incumbent government
if the current deadlock was not resolved by tomorrow.
Emerging out of a party secretariat meeting held at party chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal’s Nayabazar residence this morning, he said his party would not quit claim for the post of the President if others presented Koirala for the presidency. During the meeting, top leaders of the party discussed contemporary political issues and party’s future strategies.
“We are now on the verge of losing patience. We will make a last ditch effort tomorrow to forge consensus. If that failed, we will have to initiate an alternative process,” Badal said.
He said the party might consider moving a no-confidence motion against the government in the CA if the deadlock was not resolved by tomorrow.
“If they (opponents) stop us from forming the government, then the people will decide the matter in a new way,” Badal quipped when asked what they would do if the parties failed to resolve the deadlock even by tomorrow. The next CA meet is scheduled for tomorrow.
Earlier, party leader Krishna Bahadur Mahara said his party was against postponing any further the meeting of CA, which has been postponed thrice, to find a consensus among the parties on forming a new government. “We remain committed to our stance of offering the post of President to a personality who is not a political party functionary,” Mahara told the media.
Another Maoist leader, Dev Gurung, said the party leaders were in favour of using the CA to resolve the political issues in case party-level discussions failed to yield positive results.
Maoist leader Mohan Baidya ‘Kiran’ said the meeting dealt with the issue of the resignation of Maoist ministers.
