Market monitoring in Rajbiraj
Rajbiraj, June 1
A joint market monitoring team of National Human Rights Commission office of Province 2 and Rajbiraj Municipality in coordination with the local administration have started monitoring markets in the municipal areas.
Market inspection of municipal areas will be carried out for the next three to four days. As many as one dozen sweetmeat shops, hotels and grocery shops operating in the area were monitored today. The team found date-expired cold drinks and adulterated food items in use in many hotels.
Social Development Officer Manoj Yadav in Rajbiraj Municipality said three shops were found operating without meeting the basic criteria. He said shop owners were told to meet required criteria within three days. “Otherwise, shops will be sealed,” he warned.
Deputy Mayor Sadhana Jha of the municipality, who was also in the team, destroyed the seized materials.
Officer at National Human Rights Commission of Province 2 Man Maya Rana Magar, who is also in the market monitoring team, said market monitoring was carried out following complaints that the locals were compelled to use adulterated food items being sold by traders in market areas of the municipality.
