Married women barred due to MaoistsHimalayan News Service Darchula, April 12 The married women of far-western region of the country were disheartened after being unable to meet their beloved brothers, in the traditional festival, ‘Chaitra Ko Bhetaula’ (the meeting of Chaitra), otherwise popularly observed in the region.The whole month of Chitra (April 14 to June 13), considered as an auspicious time to visit the married sister by her brothers. The brother goes to his married sister’s home with gifts. Most of the people in the region blame the Maoist problem as the main cause for the brothers’ failure to turn up. Deepa Awasthi of Khalanga 2 of Darchula, has had a gloomy face and rues that her brother might not have come because of insecurity. Lok Mani Awasthi, her brother cannot go to meet his sister in Gokuleshower of same district. He said that the sense of insecurity due to the Maoist problem has drained him of his mentality to visit his sister.The married sisters are sullen faced and sorrowful in their in-laws houses. Prem Singh of Dhap said that the festival, which provides the opportunity to meet the departed sisters, would disappear.
