Martin, Landgren call on Dr Bhattarai

KATHMANDU: Chief of United Nations Mission in Nepal (UNMIN), Karin Landgren, and its former chief, Ian Martin, on Wednesday held separate talks with senior Maoist leader Dr Baburam Bhattarai at the latter’s residence in Shantinagar.

During the meeting, Martin raised concern over the peace process. “The issues pertaining to the peace process, formation of army integration special committee and UNMIN itself were discussed in the meetings,” said Biswodip Pandey, Bhattarai’s personal secretary.

Dr Bhattarai lauded the role played by Martin and his organisation for their contribution in the peace process. “A few parties have questioned over the UNMIN’s role due to their own political motive,” Pandey quoted Dr Bhattarai as saying.

During the meeting, they also discussed the issue of the video tape of the UCPN- M chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal. Dr Bhattarai, during the meeting with Martin, however, blamed the parties for politicising the issue.

In his separate meeting with the UNMIN chief , Dr Bhattarai raised serious concern over the formation of the army integration panel.

The UCPN-Maoist has been demanding for its party’s leadership in the panel.
