Martyrs’ memorial pillar constructed
Makwanpur, December 9:
A martyrs’ memorial pillar is being constructed along with the images and identity of the martyrs of the Jana Andolan II at the Martyr Memorial at Nawalpur of Hetauda. The pillar is being constructed as an honour to the martyrs who lost their lives for safeguarding the rights of the people.
The memorial has more than a dozen faces inscribed and statues of Jananeta Madan Bhandari and ‘Thaha Pillar’ in memory of Janamukhi Neta Rupchandra Bista have also been erected.
At the site seven kilometres from Hetauda will include faces of 25 martyrs of the Jana Andolan II, said Memorial Development Committee Secretary Dev Prasad Shrestha.
The memorial already has statues inscribed in one stone that of four martyrs Shukraraj, Dharmabhakta, Gangalal and Dasarath Chand who fought the Rana regime and of Balabhadra Kunwar, Bhakti Thapa, Bhimsen Thapa and Amar Singh Thapa, who valiantly fought the British in wars. Internal tourists have been flocking to the site after the signing of the peace accord. More than 2,000 people visit the site daily, said Administrative Chief of the Memorial Development Committee Ram Chandra Neupane.
