PHIDIM: Police arrested the main suspects behind the murder of 15-year-old Sheetal Yonghang of Hilihang Rural Municipality-4 in Panchthar district from Damak of Jhapa district on Monday.

According to Chief at Panchthar District Police Office (DPO), Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Narendra Kunwar, murder accused Padam Tamang of Falgunanda Municipality-2 in the district was arrested while hiding in a hotel room in Damak.

Organising a press meet today, the two suspects -- Padam Tamang and Bhagirath Bastola -- were made public at the DPO in the presence of their guardians, local politicians, civil society leaders, journalists, among others.

DSP Kunwar said, police's preliminary investigation has revealed that the murder suspect Tamang was in a relationship with Sheetal. However, Tamang was suspicious that his girlfriend was having an affair with another man. He asked her to come to a nearby unguarded house before brutally cutting her throat to death.

DPO, Panchthar, in coordination with the DPO, Jhapa and Provincial Police Office, Biratnagar finally apprehended the alleged absconding murder suspect after 21 days of the incident.

Earlier, another suspect, Bhagirath Bastola of Falgunanda Municipality-2 in the district was arrested on the same day of the incident, according to police.

It has been learned that the minor was a tenth grader at Siddha Secondary School at Hilihang in the district.
