Mechi Highway obstructed following death of biker in Panchthar accident
PHIDIM: A motorcyclist died after being hit by a passenger bus in Amarpur of Panchthar on Monday. Following the accident, the Mechi Highway was obstructed.
Pancha Hembya (20), who was riding on the two-wheeler (Me 4 Pa 8575), died after the bus (Me 1 Kha 1998) en route to Jhapa from Taplejung hit his bike at Helen Chok, Amarpur-6.
Locals have been protesting at the point and obstructing the Highway since 8 am today, demanding that the bus driver be booked.
They also stopped police from lifting the body from the road.
Police, however, said they have impounded the bus and arrested the driver for further investigation.
DSP Krishna Prasad Koirala, Chief of Panchthar District Police Office, said an additional police team has been deployed to the site to control the situation.
Dozens of vehicles and hundreds of passengers have been stranded on mid-way due to the obstruction.
