‘Media houses must promote inclusion’

Stakeholders have stressed that the next leadership of the Federation of Nepali Journalists must be capable of working for the welfare of journalists.

Speaking at the inaugural session of Federation of Nepalese Indigenous Nationalities Journalists in Pokhara today, they rued the ‘failure’ of Nepali media to be inclusive as many working journalists are still deprived of minimum wage.

Emphasising the importance of a leadership that can accommodate journalists from all backgrounds, FONIJ Central Chairman Danda Gurung said the state’s communication policy and media should promote

inclusion.

Also, President of FNJ Kaski chapter Ram Krishna Gyawali urged journalists to follow ethics of journalism while covering stories. Chairman of FONIJ Kaski chapter Hum Gurung said FONIJ was playing an active role in ensuring professional security of journalists from indigenous communities.

Chairman of Kaski chapter of Nepal Press Union Shiromani Baral, Chairman of Kaski chapter of Press Chautari Nepal Madhav Baral, Chairman of Kaski chapter of Press Centre Bibhu Bhusal, Chairperson of Tamu Dhi Nepal Karma Gurung and Chairman of Magar Journalists Association Rudra Bahadur Thapa also stressed on promoting welfare of working journalists.
