LAHAN: The District Public Health Office has mobilised separate teams of health workers to prevent the possible outbreak of an epidemic in flood-stricken villages of Saptari.

The health workers equipped with enough medicinal supplies were sent to Sakarpura, Launiyan, Tilathi, Rampura and Mahalniya VDCs, DPHO Saptari Chief, Bijya Jha said.

The medical teams will attend patients suffering from fever and cold along with water-induced diseases and take precautionary measures to prevent any outbreak of an epidemic, according to Jha.

The villages are waterlogged and the drinking water supply lines have been polluted whereas the flooded areas are littered with dead snakes and frogs.

The Health Ministry had recently issued instructions to the local authorities to send medical teams with adequate medicines in the villages hit by flooding and landslides.

The torrential downpour continuing for the last one week has engorged the local Khando, Muhali and Jita Rivers and inundated more than 2,000 houses in the villages.

Meanwhile, with a lull in the downpour, the floodwaters in the villages have started to dry up.
