Meter readers launch protest, seek pay hike

Rajbiraj, October 9

Meter readers of Nepal Electricity Authority in provinces 1 and 2, including Saptari district, have started agitation demanding pay hike from today.

The meter readers said they had worked for very meagre wages for long. They added that they were compelled to protest as their concerns were unaddressed. The NEA Rajbiraj-based distribution centre Meter Reader Chairman Durgananda Yadav said they were compelled to halt meter reading from October 2.

Yadav said meter reading had stopped at Rajbiraj of Saptari, Mirchaiya and Lahan of Siraha, Janakpur and Mahendranagar of Dhanusha, Jaleshwor and Gaushala of Mahottari, among other places.

Meter Reader Protest Committee Central Chairman Sailendra Kamal Lal said meter reading had been halted in some of the places in Province 1 as well.

Yadav said no decision was taken even though they were assured that discussions would be held at the central level to resolve problems.
