Millennium Trekking route being revived
POKHARA: Efforts have been initiated to revive the Millennium Trekking route when the trend of trekking routes shortening due to the construction of motorable roads has been increasing in various parts of the country in recent times.
The Millennium Trekking route runs from Dulegaunda of Tanahun to Rambachha of Syangja district. This is approximately 72-kilometre trekking route that traverses through the middle hills of Gandaki Province.
Although this route was started in 2000 AD, giving it the name Millennium Trekking Route, it was not publicised and promoted much in the meantime due to political upheavals.
According to the Millennium Trek Management Committee general-secretary Harka Gurung, this trekking route has potentiality from the tourism point of view for it provides the trekker with an experience of adventure and glimpses of various cultures, natural beauty of Nepal’s mid-hills.
The trekking route takes the traveller from an altitude of 420 metres to 1,715 metres.
Four resorts are being constructed at various places along the trekking route while there are home-stay facilities at 13 various places.
Meanwhile, a trekking promotion programme has been started in association with journalists and other mediapersons from today with the objective of reviving the trekking route.
