KATHMANDU, April 9

A group of Nepali and foreign climbers today scaled the world's seventh highest peak making the season's first successful summit of the peak above 8000 metre.

According to Dawa Sherpa, manager at Imagine Nepal Treks, legendary climber Mingma Gyalje Sherpa along with other climbers stood atop Mt Dhaulagiri opening a route to the summit point at around 10:30am.

At least 12 Sherpa and 10 foreign climbers began their summit push to the top of 8,167-metre mountain last night.

Mingma Gyalje-led team who reached the summit point includes Sashko Kedev, Keval Hiren Kakka, Tracee lee Metcalfe, Christopher Bernard Warner, Gina Marie Rzucidlo, Haakon Aasvang, Hong Dong Juan, Anurag Reddy Nallavelli, Naoki Ishikawa and Jill Wheatley.

Other Nepali climbers include Dawa Kamey Sherpa, Dawa Gyalje Sherpa, Chhiring Sherpa, Vinayak Jay Malla, Tamting Sherpa, Sonam Tashi Sherpa, Jit Bahadur Sherpa, Kili Pemba Sherpa, Thundu Sherpa, Pemba Tenzing Sherpa and Aangdu Sherpa also stood atop the mountain, according to Dawa.
