Minister for Labour, Employment and Social Security, Deepak Kumar Sah, has instructed the concerned authorities to devise and implement a comprehensive action plan to streamline, regulate and ensure safety to country's labour and employment sector.
Minister Sah, reviewing the 100-point action plan approved by the Cabinet on March 27 for effective governance, called for draft and implementation of measures to reform country's labour sector.
Starting on Sunday, the Ministry brought in force a new scheme replacing the 'token' system, allowing the labour permits to be issued on the same day applications are submitted.
The Minister also asked to develop audio visual contents based on the Pre-Departure Orientation Training (PDOT) curriculum and make them available digitally for the aspiring migrant workers.
The newly appointed Minister's key instructions include enrolling all prospective migrant workers in the contribution-based social security scheme and ensuring strict enforcement of minimum wage standards for the labourers.
The Minister called for strengthening and organizing Shramadhan labour call centre and conducting risk assessments in industrial establishments to promote occupational health and safety.
He also emphasized promotion of production and entrepreneurship to generate domestic employment, expansion of bilateral labour agreements with five more countries. The Minister instructed for immediate implementation of the ten doable action plans finalized to reform the labour sector.
