Minister of Internal Affairs and Communications in Madhes Province Bharat Prasad Sah has said the provincial government would not indulge in any act that suppresses press freedom.

Making public the code of conduct prepared by Madhes Province Media Council in Janakpurdham today, Minister Sah reiterated that the government was committed to press freedom and civic liberties.

He informed that the Province Communications Act, 2020 was flawed so a bill for its amendment was tabled in the Province Assembly.

"The Act was brought without holding broader discussion. It failed to mention the film board as well. For better clarity on the related issues, the Act needs amendments," Minister Sah reminded."

According to him, there are no points intended to suppress journalists' rights. As the bill for the amendment of Act was presented in the Province Assembly just yesterday, any issues left to be addressed could be incorporated.

Media Council Chair in Madhes Shivahari Bhattarai, informed that the code of conduct was made by garnering suggestions from journalists in the province, and considering the code of conduct issued by FNJ and Press Council Nepal.
