Minister’s visit spurs jail trouble
Nepalgunj, October 22:
Seven jailbirds were injured in a clash that broke out in the Nepalgunj prison today after the visit of Education Minister and MJF leader Renu Kumari Yadav.
Yadav met vice-chairman of the Madhesi Janaadhikar Forum (MJF) Hiralal Loniya today. Dipak Jaisi, a guard, rained batons when other prisoners, who are not affiliated to the MJF, also tried to meet her, said Constituent Assembly member Istiyak Rai, who had accompanied Yadav.
The police lobbed 25 rounds of tear gas shells to disperse the mob, Rai added. The situation has come under control, said Ghanashyam Bhatta, Superintendent of Police in Banke.
