Ministers observe flood-hit areas in Dhanusha

MAHENDRANAGAR, DHANUSHA: Minister for Water Supply and Sanitation Mahendra Yadav and Minister for Agricultural Development Ram Krishna Yadav on Monday took stock of the damage caused due to the flood and inundation at various places of Dhanusha district.

The ministers, who are themselves from Dhanusha district, inspected a dozen flood affected places including Pulchok, Musahari Tol, Mujeliya, Laxminiya in Janakpur Sub-metropolitan City.

Minister for Water Supply and Sanitation said they have come to Dhanusha as per the Cabinet decision assigning ministers to take stock of the flood damages in different districts across the country. He said the government is vigorously working to minimise the suffering resulting from the disaster.

He said the government has assessed that there is a crisis situation in 13-14 districts of the Tarai due to flooding and inundation, adding necessary water purification tablets have been distributed to the flood victims in the district.

The Minister for Agricultural Development said that a decision has been made to provide Rs 200 thousand as relief to each family losing one of their family members to the flooding. He further said the Chief District Officer has been directed to provide food grains and foodstuff to the victimised families. The minister duo also inspected the Ratu Bridge along the East-West highway that links Dhanusha and Mahottari districts. The flooded river has wreaked havoc on the bridge.
