Convex mirrors at turns in East-West Highway in Nawalparasi
NAWALPARASI: In a bid to reduce road accidents along the East-West Highway, convex mirrors are being installed at major road turns in Nawalparasi district.
The mirrors are being installed along a 15-kilometre stretch of the highway, from Dumkibas to Bardaghat, as it has witnessed more accidents over past few years.
Chief District Officer Udaya Bahadur Rana launched the installation project amid a function in Daunne of the district, on Sunday.
The project would be carried out in two phases. As many as 50 mirrors would be installed in the first phase from Bardaghat to Daunne.
Rana informed that 10 mirrors were bought with the government budget while other 40 were purchased by collecting funds from various organisations.
Each convex mirror cost Rs 17,500, according to him.
It has been estimated that it would cost around Rs 1 million to install a total of 50 mirrors.
Chief of the District Traffic Police Office, Rajendra Prasad Chaudhary, informed that the initiative was taken after awareness programmes failed to curb road accidents in the district.
Convex mirror allows drivers to see vehicles coming from the opposite direction at turns in the road.
