A four-day search for a 10-year-old girl who went missing from Dhankaul Rural Municipality ended in tragedy after her body was found in the Manushmara River.
The victim, Chandrakumari Yadav, daughter of Ram Binay Yadav of Harakathwa-3, had been missing since Sunday. Her family, local residents and police had been searching for her since she disappeared.
Her body was recovered in the Manushmara River in Dhankaul-4 on Wednesday evening, according to the District Police Office, Sarlahi.
Police said their preliminary assessment suggests she may have drowned while bathing in the river. However, the exact circumstances are still under investigation, said DSP Bed Prasad Gautam, spokesperson for the Sarlahi District Police Office.
The body was handed over to the family after a post-mortem at the Provincial Hospital in Malangawa and completion of legal procedures.
Police said further investigation into the incident is underway.
