Missing teenager found dead in paddy field

Sunsari, October 2

Fifteen-year-old Imtiyaj Miya, who went missing for the past four days, was found dead in the paddy field in Itahari Sub-metropolitan City, Sunsari, at 11:00am today.

Miya’s body was found in the paddy field 200 metres away from his home, according to Area Police office, Itahari. The body was decaying.

Miya had left home with four friends after having a meal at 8:00pm on Friday night for a walk.  Miya’s father Abajal said they had carried out the search of missing son from the next morning as he did not return home the same night. “We launched the search operation on Saturday and we reported to the police on Sunday after he was not found,” Abajal said.

Police had carried out a search operation with the help of locals and Miya’s relatives. “When we approached the paddy field, it smelled bad. Soon, we found the body there,” Abajal said.

Imtiyaj’s friend Prahalad Chaudhary had advised that they search for him at Bikash Chaudhary’s poultry farm in Itahari. Miya could not be found there. The body was found in the paddy field near the poultry farm.

Abajal said he had filed FIR against all four persons who took his son with them on Friday night. DSP Shiv Shrestha at the Area Police Office Itahari said that Imtiyaj’s four friends were held and investigation was on. DSP Shrestha said that they told the police that they had consumed alcohol and had a dispute. “But, they did not disclose the cause of death”, he said.

A policeman involved in the investigation surmised that electricity was connected to the poultry farm through hooking and Imtiyaj might have died after he was electrocuted. After he died, they might have thrown the body in the paddy field.

DSP Shrestha, however, said that the exact cause of death was yet to be ascertained. The body has been sent to Dharan-based BP Koirala Institute of Health Sciences fro post-mortem.
