Mission Better Nepal's health camp in Kalikot hinterland

KATHMANDU: Mission Better Nepal, a voluntary movement of Nepali youth, organised a health camp in Raku, one of the remotest villages in Kalikot to address malnutrition and other diseases rampant in the region.

Following recent news reports about cases of malnutrition in this region, the campaign organised the camp under the leadership of its co-convener Rabin Khatiwada on Wednesday.

The campaigners had also distributed medicines, food items and clothes to the locals, according to a statement issued by the organiser today.

The visiting team had in it medical student Santosh Singh Thapa and campaigners Kuber Sodari and Anil Khatiwada.

In the camp organised in collaboration with a local health post, about 250 villagers were examined, and rehabilitation goods were distributed to more than 40 families, campaigner Santosh Singh Thapa informed.

"Besides malnutrition, the villagers also have complaints of asthma, uterine prolapse, skin diseases and piles," he said, "Bearing many children in expectation of sons, smoking and lack of awareness are some of the causes of this."

The Mission Better Nepal had launched the Mission Better Kalikot as a long-term mission to address malnutrition in the district, according to Khatiwada.

"We will visit here more frequently with more resources and doctors," he said, informing that the Mission was being assisted by philanthropists both at home and abroad.

The visiting campaigners also organised awareness and motivational programmes in a few locations in Surkhet and Dang districts on the way.
