Moderate ML 5.5 fresh earthquake shakes western Nepal

KATHMANDU: A fresh earthquake hit far-western Nepal at 4:02 am on Saturday morning.

The National Seismological Centre said the earthquake was of local magnitude 5.5 with its epicentre in Bajura district.

According to the National Seismological Centre, the coordinates of the epicentre are 29.44°N, 81.69 5.5°E, close to Jagannath of Bajura district.

The Rastriya Samachar Samiti reported that the tremor was felt in most of the districts of the Far-Western and Mid-Western Development Regions.

The last individual earthquake recorded in the region was on September 29. The earthquake was of local magnitude 4.6 with its epicentre in Darchula district.

Meanwhile, the number of aftershocks of the April 25 earthquake, recorded in eastern and central Nepal, has reached 418 till December 13, the NSC records show.
