Mock Parliament held
KAVRE: A Model National Youth Legislature Parliament kicked off in Dhulikhel, Kavre, on Saturday. Youths from marginalised communities of 18 districts, including 14 earthquake-hit districts participated in the dummy parliament organised by human rights monitors in collaboration with Swedish Development Commission. The 89 participating youths elected Sudhir Rai as elected prime minister and Manju Karki as Speaker. Five candidates had vied for the post and four for Speaker. The second highest vote getter Samikshya Gurung was made the leader of main opposition party while second highest scorer in the Speaker’s election Yubraj Tamang was assigned the responsibility of Vice-speaker. For minister’s post, as many as 22 youths had registered their candidacies. Anjana Shakya, chairperson at the organising association, said they had organised the model Legislature Parliament to develop youth leadership.
