KATHMANDU, JULY 3
A modern aviation fuel depot has been constructed at Pokhara International Airport.
The facility was developed independently by Nepal Oil Corporation (NOC) and has a total storage capacity of 3.6 million litres. Details about the project were shared at a press conference held in Pokhara on Thursday.
Notably, the depot was built using entirely domestic investment, expertise, and workforce. Project Chief Pradip Yadav stated that the technologically equipped facility was established to supply aviation fuel for both domestic and international flights operating from the airport.
To meet growing demand, three vertical storage tanks-each with a capacity of 1,200 kilolitres-have been installed. Each tank stands 12 metres high and 12 metres wide.
"This is the first time in NOC's 55-year history that a depot has been built solely by the corporation," Yadav said, adding that all consultants, contractors, and financial resources were mobilised from within the country.
The project was completed on schedule. The foundation stone was laid on July 17, 2023, and the storage tanks will become operational from August. The total construction cost, excluding VAT, amounted to Rs 750 million.
