‘Morning classes in winter impractical’

Rautahat, November 20

Schools in Rautahat today said chilling cold made it difficult for them to run classes in the morning.

The agitating United Madhesi Democratic Front on Thursday had decided to allow schools, which remained shut due to the ongoing agitation in the Tarai, to run classes till 11:00 am.

Shankar Sah, Rautahat chairman of Private and Boarding Schools Organisation, Nepal, said the thick fog made it impossible for students from rural areas to reach their schools early in the morning. “It remains dark till late in the morning.

We are under pressure to resume classes as schools remained shut for the past three months, but it is difficult to run classes under the current circumstances,” he said.

Cold wave hits the plains during winter. Academic calendar of this year has been adversely affected due to the ongoing Tarai agitation.

Rautahat coordinator of the agitating front Ram Niwas Yadav said they had allowed schools to run the classes in the morning as they wound continue their protest programmes in the afternoon.

Even after the agitating front decided to allow schools to run classes in the morning, only a few schools in the district headquarters Gaur opened on Friday, after around 100 days. Many schools in the district are likely to resume classes from Sunday.
