PYUTHAN: Two children have been found dead, apparently due to smoke inhalation, in their house in Phopli VDC-3 of Pyuthan district on Tuesday morning.

After finding both her sons – three-year-old Loke Pun and six-year-old Laxman Pun – dead on their bed, Chumani Pun allegedly committed suicide, according to police.

The 26-year-old woman had burned firewood in her children’s room to keep them warm and closed the door and windows before retiring to an adjoining cowshed on Monday evening.

After preliminary investigation, the District Police Office, Pyuthan said that children died of smoke inhalation in the poorly ventilated room.

Chumani Pun when returned to the room at around 5 am this morning, DSP Tul Bahadur Karki said, found her son dead and was heard screaming and shouting for help from her neighbours.

Later her body was found dangling from a tree, DSP Karki said.
