Mother, her newborn rescued

Gaighat, January 15

Police in Udayapur today rescued a mentally retarded woman and her newborn from Murkuchi bazaar of Rauta VDC.

The mother and child were rescued after the locals noticed them wandering in the bazaar area and informed the police.

Police later handed them over to the district children welfare committee.

“As the mother seemed mentally unhealthy and both of them were in pathetic condition, languishing in the cold, they were handed over to the committee (child welfare committee),” informed Chief District Officer Krishnachandra Ghimire.

Both have now been admitted to district hospital for necessary medical care. “The condition of both the child and the mother is fine; in view of their health we’ve managed nutritious food for both of them,” said the hospital chief Dr Chumanlal Das.

“As the mother’s mental health isn’t sound, the child requires someone else to tend to him,” he added.
