MoU to shift UN body’s office

Kathmandu, July 21:

A memorandum of understanding has been signed to relocate the United Nations Regional Centre for Peace and Disarmament in Asia and Pacific from New York to Kathmandu, stated Nepal’s Permanent Mission to the United Nations.

Amid a brief ceremony held on Friday at the UN Headquarters, Nepal’s Permanent Representative to UN Madhu Raman Acharya and the Representative for Disarmament Affairs of UN Sergio de Queiroz Duarte signed the MoU.

According to the agreement, Nepal will shoulder part of initial and operational costs of the Centre, including the salaries of locally-recruited personnel.
