Mound removal starts along Narayangadh-Muglin road
CHITWAN: The ongoing road expansion at Ghumaune along Narayangadh-Muglin road has been brought to a halt to remove a mound that is at risk of falling. The removal of the spur has started from today.
A big mound that lies approximately 15 meters above alongside the area where a landslide occurred recently killing two road construction workers, is at risk of collapsing, said engineer for the Narayangadh-Muglin Road Project Shiva Khanal. "Work is on to remove the spur that started falling after being shaken following construction works," he said.
The process to cut the cracked stone from 44 metres above started from 10am today and it would complete within tomorrow, the engineer Khanal said. The mound is estimated to be more than 100 cubic metres in volume.
"It is not sure to say how many days it takes to remove the mound as it is hard to be sure whether or not a landslide occurs following the spur removal," he said.
For the time being, the passage of traffics has been taking place taking turn since yesterday, accessing the risk at the site, said Superintendent of Police Dipak Thapa.
Vehicles passing through the road have been directed to take alternative routes throughout the mound removal process. A rescue team of police has also been kept on alert at the site.
