Move against distilleries, RCCC tells govt bodies

In a bid to control tax evasion, the Royal Commission for Corruption Control (RCCC) has asked the concerned authorities “to keep an eye” on all the distilleries across the country.

This RCCC directive, according to spokesperson Prem Raj Karki, was taken after they received complaints from various sources that the distilleries across the country were evading tax. “The Inland Revenue office of Bhairahawa has decided to collect over Rs 980 million

from the Triveni Distillery, Bhairahawa, following an inspection of the distillery on the initiatives of the Commission,” spokesperson Karki said. The RCCC has also initiated investigation against the misuse of public and Guthi land, illegal import of vehicles from across the borders, and collection of revenue from wilful defaulters.
