KATHMANDU, JUNE 6

The Muslim community in Nepal will celebrate Eid-ul-Adha, also known as Bakar Eid, on Saturday. It is the second most significant festival in Islam after Eid-ul-Fitr.

Observed on the 70th day of Ramadan, Eid-ul-Adha commemorates Prophet Ibrahim's willingness to sacrifice his son Ishmael in obedience to Allah. According to Islamic tradition, a ram was sacrificed instead by divine command.

The festival is marked by the ritual slaughtering of animals, symbolizing the spirit of sacrifice. Those who are able also undertake the Hajj pilgrimage to Mecca and Medina in Saudi Arabia during this period.
