NA closes post-quake operation

KATHMANDU: Nepal Army (NA) said its personnel deployed in post-earthquake rescue, relief and rehabilitation operations returned to their barracks on Thursday.

The Army had launched the Operation Sankat Mochan on April 25 after the devastating magnitude-7.6 earthquake rattled the nation.

Upon recommendation from the Cabinet, the President had approved mobilisation of the army till today for rescue and relief operations.

Nearly 9,000 people have died in the quake and its subsequent aftershocks.

The NA said its personnel deployed in the districts hit by the quake contributed in normalising post-quake life with their involvement in search, rescue, relief and debris management activities.

The Army made it clear that personnel deployed in the debris management joint task force of the government and those deployed in heritage sites have not called back.

The NA expressed its commitment that its personnel are ready to take any responsibility in the national reconstruction campaign.
