National Assembly Election issues will be resolved within few days: Dahal

KATHMANDU: The CPN-Maoist Centre Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal has expressed optimism that issues related to the National Assembly Election would be resolved within few days.

"The constitution does not have concrete information about the National Assembly Election, that's why there are differences in opinion among the political parties," Dahal said while addressing the 47th anniversary of the Pragati Secondary School at Shukranagar in Chitwan today.

"Earlier, the parties had forged consensus on holding the Single Transferable Voting System for the National Assembly Election and draft was made accordingly. However, Nepali Congress leaders proposed for first-past-the-post electoral system for National Assembly election," shared Dahal.

"Nominating members one each from Woman, Dalit, Disabled or Remote Area would be problematic through STV system, so there is no choice other than following Multiple Electoral Voting System based on majority in the Parliament. National Assembly requires opposition as well," Dahal explained.

"I and Oli held a deep conversation regarding the formation of the National Assembly Election. Disputes arising in holding the National Assembly election would be resolved within few days," Dahal reiterated.

Speaking on a different note, former Prime Minister Dahal quashed on few fake news in the digital media regarding the party unification.

"There are no differences among the leftist parties regarding the unification, it would be an illusion if someone is suspecting the leftist parties unification," Dahal shared.

Former PM Dahal said he could not attend the Party Unification Committee meeting which was scheduled today as bad weather prevented him from boarding a flight to Kathmandu.

He said the meeting would be held day after tomorrow and the unification process would move ahead.

Nepali Congress and Madhes-based parties have backed the Single Transferable Voting System for the National Assembly election, where as UML is standing firm on Multiple Electoral Voting System based on majority for the same.

Under the Majority voting system, UML would have more number of members in the National Assembly as it has secured majority seats in vital posts in the Rural Municipality and Municipalities in recently concluded FPTP and Provincial elections.

The CPN-Maoist Centre Chairman Puspa Kamal Dahal has asserted that he would play a mediatory role between the NC, the main opposition UML and Madhes based parties for forging consensus on the National Assembly election issues for ending the political impasse.

Meanwhile, it has been learnt that the Nepali Congress and Madhes-based parties have refused to budge from their stance on the National Assembly Election Ordinance, UML is under pressure to back the ordinance.
