KATHMANDU, FEBRUARY 11

A meeting of the National Assembly (NA) on Thursday passed the Film Bill, 2081 BS.

During the session, Minister for Women, Children and Senior Citizens, acting on behalf of Prime Minister and Minister for Communications and Information Technology Sushila Karki, tabled the bill for endorsement.

As announced by NA Chair Narayan Prasad Dahal, the bill was unanimously approved by the House. The Assembly is scheduled to reconvene at 12:15 pm on Friday, February 13.

Meanwhile, speaking during the zero hour of the session, several members urged the government to ensure that the upcoming House of Representatives elections are conducted in a free, fair and impartial environment. They also called on the authorities to address potential security challenges related to the polls.

The lawmakers further apprised the government of incidents of artificial shortages and the black-marketing of essential goods. They paid tribute to the victims of the Tamakoshi bus accident in Ramechhap on Tuesday morning, which claimed 12 lives, and demanded adequate compensation for the bereaved families along with free treatment for the injured. They also stressed the need to guarantee road safety.

Krishna Bahadur Rokaya, Padam Bahadur Pariyar, Bishnudevi Pudasaini, Ghanshyam Rijal, Renu Chand, and Shree Krishna Shrestha were among those who expressed their views during the meeting.
