Domestic violence

KATHMANDU: Over a dozen cases have been lodged in National Women''s Commission (NWC) after the government enacted the Domestic Violence Act (Crime and Punishment). However, NWC informed that giving a final verdict over the cases was hampered due to lack of regulations of the Act. Acting secretary at the NWC Rituraj Bhandari said the commission could not forward the cases for the legal procedures due to lack of mechanisms and regulation. The Act has defined the NWC, police offices, local bodies and courts as the offices to hear the complaints against the violence. Bhandari asked the government to bring regulation at the earliest for the effective implementation of the Act.
