Special ID for NRNs

Kathmandu: Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) said plans were afoot to provide the Non-Resident Nepalis with special identity cards. Durga Bhattarai, spokesperson, MoFA said that preparation to issue the cards was at a final stage. Earlier, MOFA had decided to distribute the identity card by January 1 but it was delayed due to some unfinished groundwork, he added. During the NRNs' conference in Kathmandu earlier, Deputy Prime Minister Sujata Koirala had announced that separate identity cards would be issued to the NRN community. NRN community has taken it as a positive step despite their demand of dual citizenship. After getting such identity card, NRN community will be able to purchase land and house within the country, besides carrying out business activities. The Non-Resident Nepalis Association's international coordination council, however, has been demanding dual citizenship.

Two shot at, hurt

BARA: An unidentified gang shot at and injured two persons in Basatapur Chowk of Pipara VDC on Sunday night. According to District Police Office, Bara, Mahendra Shah of Paterwa VDC and Wokil Yadav of Teta VDC, who were heading to their home, were injured in the attack. Shah sustained bullet injury under his waist while Yadav on his hand. The injured duo is undergoing treatment at Narayani Sub-Regional Hospital in Birgunj. Police said the investigation was underway.
